You tin can barely go into it having played them all earlier!

(Seriously, you probably could and still enjoy the game, but to enjoy every role of it, you lot'd accept to do your homework. Sources indicate that it's actually a game for the people that honey the franchise deeply.)

Yeah, sure. Some elements of the story might not make sense, simply permit me boil it downwards for yous:

Sora is a kid with a keyblade who goes around beating upwards bad guys in Disney worlds. At that place's an evil organization of men in black hoods trying to essentially take over the earth. Frozen, Toy Story, Pirates of the Caribbean area!

Only play it and later report to us how lost are you when playing the game. Having impression of full newcomer like y'all would be super valuable for future discussion of the game.

Imo, I think you'll be actually lost and confused unless SE take really adept summary at the starting time of the game, just Id love to hear your experience.

How lost in the plot will I exist?
You will be lost regardless of whether or not you played the other games and or catch up by videos. If information technology looks fun to play check out. The plot is a nightmare fifty-fifty if you follow it closely.

Why is this a affair with KH? OP would you go and play Metal Gear Solid 4 without playing the other titles?
  • #10
You lot are already lost

Yes. As KH3 co-managing director Tai Yasue had said and repeated since 2016:

"You can play KH3 without playing the past games by just enjoying the Disney worlds and gameplay."

Simple as that.

There are a lot of characters from a agglomeration of different stories whose arcs get resolved in this game. That stuff is never going to have the narrative payoff you'd go it you played all the games.

People somehow dealt with the Organisation getting little to no grapheme development in a couple of the games where they kickoff appeared, so perchance y'all'll exist fine here.

Without knowing what really happens, I have no idea what foreknowledge is useful for agreement the game'southward internal plot.

Watch a vídeo on YouTube on the story/by games and you lot're expert.

Why is this a thing with KH? OP would you go and play Metal Gear Solid 4 without playing the other titles?

I played MGS five and had but played MGS 2........pretty damn disruptive but the gameplay was good enough

The gameplay is e'er fun

But the story is a glorious mess of retcons and deus ex machina that is so goddamn fun that its not the aforementioned without it

Yea the games are designed so that new commers can at least participate in the games story. Some parts might non make sense since they are wrapping up plot lines from other games. Only the first and middle parts of the game should be good for you. If previous entries are indicative of how the story unfolds.

I oasis't played the first two Kingdom Hearts since they came out only even playing those games I have no idea what happened.

What almost MGSV? There's no way to play the majority of the prequels if you just had a PS4 for example?

It happens with every game that gets a large sequel tho, remember witcher 3?

I played MGS 5 and had but played MGS 2........pretty damn confusing but the gameplay was skilful enough

I mean if you similar Action RPG's it doesn't get much improve than Kingdom Hearts to be honest, peculiarly two. Some of the all-time in the genre.

And i kinda need KH3 to wash abroad the bad taste of FFXV regarding ARPGs...

Why is this a thing with KH? OP would you go and play Metal Gear Solid iv without playing the other titles?

Equally someone that doesn't care much about stories in games, I've played heaps of sequels without playing the original game if I hear that the sequel is significantly amend.
  • #27
Y'all tin? You can. You should? Yous shouldn't. Information technology'due south the end of a saga of like 8 games.
Richietto
  • #28
Upwards to you. Just don't go in thinking you lot'll sympathize a ton of the story. Y'all'll get the broad strokes, but there is gonna exist a ton of reveals. A take hold of upwards video could help a lot if y'all wanted to try and understand.

  • #29
Just watch one of the many story recaps on YouTube and that volition give you a good idea of what'due south going on. Y'all don't have to have a swell agreement of these games to enjoy them. Play KH3 if it interests you and wiki anything you don't understand

You could, I don't know if you should though.

  • #31
What about MGSV? There'south no fashion to play the majority of the prequels if you lot only had a PS4 for case?

But... that'southward not the case here, you take collections in PS3 and PS4 of all the required games leading upwards to this 1.

If yous're comfy hopping into a narrative-focused franchise on the conclusion of a series-spanning plot thread, go for it. Don't but buy it considering information technology's the hot new matter.

Go this instead.

Sora is a kid with a keyblade who goes around beating up bad guys in Disney worlds. There'southward an evil organization of men in black hoods trying to essentially take over the earth. Frozen, Toy Story, Pirates of the Caribbean!

Best summary ever :D

OP: I simply played KH one and two which led to me asking myself all the time while I was playing KH2: What the fuck is going on? I take no clue where all these characters come up from, who they are or what their motivation is. In that location seems to happen A LOT between KH1 and KH2.
Exercise yourself a favour and play the games or watch at least a recap. Otherwise KH3 will exist a shitshow I guess.

I played MGS 5 and had only played MGS 2........pretty damn confusing but the gameplay was good enough

The story in MGS 5 is garbage even if yous have been following the whole series.

I'thousand kind of the opinion that Kingdom Hearts is the same way. If you aren't already invested and just desire to run across a bunch of cool Disney stuff and beat out on some monsters, you might as well jump into KH3.

I don't think going back and playing a dozen games of varying quality will be worth the extra story context in the long run.

Yous tin.

You lot shouldn't.

Pick up KH: The Story So Far and spend a couple weeks. KH1 can be rought at times simply the series is, as a whole, a complete blast. Play through it, take fun, then jump into KH3 after.

I mean plot-wise probably not, merely in terms of gameplay, you'll probably be fine. The commencement world is literally the protagonist re-learning all their skills and then information technology'south near guaranteed to take tutorials to help you out.

  • #41
I watched a agglomeration of lengthy recap videos and I could barely follow the story. Mainly because of the hilarious number of retcons.

  • #42
KH is just a theme park ride for people who don't care virtually the actual dumb plot. So go for it.
Schierke Mori
  • #43
Watch a recap video. Y'all volition have to anyways - playing the games might go far more confusing haha

  • #44
I don't even know why people follow the nuances of the story. I played i and 2 and don't think annihilation, and I'm going into 3 and stoked for information technology.

Child wants to end a big baddie. Clones or some shit. They're from an island, but weirdly no one else lives there. Principal graphic symbol is Naruto, friend is Sasuke. In that location'due south Disney stuff.

Absolutely non. At that place's no recap videos at the start, or optional movies like in Yakuza, it dives straight into the deep end and expects you to come straight off Dream Drop Distance and Fragmentary Passage.

Admittedly not. There's no recap videos at the start, or optional movies like in Yakuza, it dives direct into the deep finish and expects yous to come straight off Dream Drop Distance and Bitty Passage.
I thought a recap was gonna be in the menus and was confirmed

  • #49
It's not just well-nigh understanding the story, OP – you lot'd be missing out on following these characters grow and alter through their lives.
  • #50
Become for it. Information technology's not similar the story is well told or well written. Watch a recap video if you lot really care.
